One such detail has to do with the game’s complex physics engine, which allows for interactions like metallic objects being struck more readily by lightning, magnetic attraction using the Magnesis Rune, conservation of momentum using the Stasis Rune, and many others. Nintendo tries to combine realism with the fantasy world of The Legend of Zelda to create an authentic, yet still fantastical experience.

The game allows players to break wooden treasure chests with one of Link’s many different types of weapons, but the metal treasure chests are usually unbreakable. However, a video on Gaming Reinvented’s YouTube channel shows off a glitch in which players are able to use the Goron cannons around the area of Death Mountain to break these metal treasure chests. However, instead of just breaking and revealing the actual contents of the chest, this slight glitch actually has a few weird effects.

Clearly, the developers did not expect players to move the metal treasure chests into position and then blast them with the Goron cannons. In the video, we see that this glitch causes the game to load in random items, including clothing items, that wouldn’t otherwise be in this type of treasure chest, and sometimes it does it so that the items are floating in the air, unable to be retrieved.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a revolutionary game that redefined the open-world role-playing game genre in many different ways, but, as with any video game, it is not without its glitches. Some glitches, like the bullet-time bounce or the windbomb, have a specific function in the game, whereas others, like this glitch with the Goron cannons, don’t really play a major role in gameplay.

Although many players may think it to be a waste of time to move metal treasure chests with Magnesis into position to then use a Remote Bomb to fire a cannon to blow them up just for gear that cannot be attained, the spirit of discovery that lies in finding something like this is remarkable and is a testament to how much attention to detail went into the herculean effort of developing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available on the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
