It can be dangerous to journey out into the unknown for players searching for these stables for the first time. Knowing exactly where these stables are and how to find them will help even the most experienced players fill out their maps of Hyrule.
Updated April 13, 2022 by Ritwik Mitra:Breath of the Wildis one of the most popular video games of all time, catapulting its parent series to new heights as the series ventured into the realm of a true open-world game with spectacular results. Traversal was one of the most important aspects of the game, with players having a bunch of different ways to roam the vast world of Hyrule. However, only three of these were the most prevalent of the lot — traveling on foot, gliding… and roaming around on horseback.
Using horses is a blast in Breath of the Wild. In fact, there are actually several wild animals and other such creatures that can be mounted in the game, which is pretty neat indeed. However, only proper horses can be boarded from stables, which serve as great resting points and a way for players to decide where they would want to explore next. Here’s a detailed look at every stable in the game where players can catch a breather.
What To Know About Stables In Breath Of The Wild
For the most part, players would only board and take horses from stables whenever they happen upon these settlements. However, there are several other things that players can accomplish in these stables if they decide to explore these areas a bit.
These areas normally feature merchants, some of whom might have valuable goods as well. Given the sheer volume of loot players can find in Breath of the Wild, selling some of the stuff they have isn’t the worst idea in the world. Aside from this, some stables have recipes that players can note down to create certain concoctions and recipes later down the line when they have the chance.
Some stables also have important NPCs that can start questlines for players to sink their teeth into. These areas also have dogs that can guide Link to treasure if he decides to befriend them, which generally requires a bit of food and some playing around with the mutt.
In general, it’s better for players to explore each and every area they happen upon in Breath of the Wild, and this applies to all the stables in the game. Of course, Breath of the Wild is pretty rewarding to players who are meticulous explorers, and some players can either take it easy later on in the game or just head to Ganon directly if they wish. After all, most players will have the tools required to defeat Ganon after playing the game for long enough.
15 Dueling Peaks Stable In West Necluda
The Dueling Peaks Stable is likely the first stable new players will encounter in Hyrule. Found just east of the Dueling Peak mountains in the West Necluda region, Link is bound to stumble past this stable on his journey to Kakariko Village. Following the road due east from the Great Plateau will take players straight through the mountains and to their first-ever Hyrule stable.
Players can start the side quest “Misko, the Great Bandit,” and hunt for some treasure, otherwise, the Wild Horses side-quest is a great incentive for players to tame their first horse and get riding around Hyrule! Breath of the Wild is known for having a great introductory sequence, with even the first stable being pretty eventful in its own right.
14 Highland Stable Near The Faron Sea
Following the main road to the southeast of the Great Plateau will lead players across Lake Hylia and eventually take them to the Highland Stables in the Faron Grassland region of Hyrule. Surrounded by rolling fields, the Highland Stables are a great place to practice horseback riding and mounted combat.
Don’t forget to complete the side-quest “The Horseback Hoodlums” and save Highland Stable from a gang of Bokoblins causing trouble in the grasslands for a Swift Carrot reward. Players with the DLC can also complete the “EX Ancient Horse Rumors” quest to find the Ancient Saddle and Bridle.
13 Lakeside Stable By Lake Floria
Just south of Faron Tower, hidden away in the lush jungle of the Faron region is Lakeside Stable. Settle right next to Lake Floria, Lakeside Stable is a great spot to set off and search for some mighty bananas, a chef’s favorite attack-boosting fruit.
Grabbing the Axe off the top of the stable will end the pesky thunderstorm plaguing the stable and complete the “Thunder Magnet” side-quest at the same time, rewarding players with the Rubber Helm, a piece of the Rubber Armor set!
12 Riverside Stable Between Hyrule Field And West Necluda
North-east of the Great Plateau, along the Hylia River, players will discover Riverside Stable. Another good early stable for new players, the Riverside Stable offers a rare safe-zone in the Central Hyrule region, hidden away from those deadly guardian laser beams.
Be sure to grab “The Royal Guard’s Gear” and “A Royal Recipe” side-quests while you’re here! These quests can only be completed in the endgame, but noting them down doesn’t really hurt.
11 Wetland Stable In The Lanayru Wetlands
Following the Hylia River north past Riverside Stable will bring Link to the Wetland Stable. Located just west of the Lanayru Wetlands, this stable is a great spot to start a journey heading up into the Zora Domain lying just to the east, following a grueling mountain climb through an army of Lizalfos.
Players can complete the “Riverbed Reward” quest by pulling a chest out of the river. Telling Izra what was found inside will gift players a Royal Broadsword. Breath of the Wild is full to the brim with secrets, with its stables being no exception to this rule either.
10 Woodland Stable Near Eldin Canyon
Woodland Stable can be found in the north-east corner of Central Hyrule, equidistant between Death Mountain and Hyrule Castle. Following the trail leading past Woodland Stable to the north will bring players to Woodland Tower and then to the Great Hyrule Forest, where players can pick up the Master Sword.
Link can also find the recipe for hasty vegetable curry, a dish to make Link move like the wind. Players can complete the “Balloon Fight” quest as well as the “EX Strange Mask Rumors” quest here. By this point, players should have accumulated enough strength to give Ganon a challenge… but more work should definitely be done regardless.
9 Foothill Stable Between Zora’s Domain And Goron City
Smack dab in the middle between Zora’s Domain and Goron City lies the Foothill Stable. Under the foot of Death Mountain is an ominous place for a stable, but Foothill Stable manages to make the best of it.
Gaile, the traveling merchant, sells fireproof elixirs for travelers thinking about making their way up to Death Mountain, so don’t pass her up! Players can also pick up the “A Landscape of a Stable” quest which leads players to the Tah Muhl Shrine, by talking to Mayro and examining the painting that hangs in the stable.
8 South Akkala Stable In The Akkala Highlands
Just north-west of Akkala tower lies South Akkala Stable. Following the road that goes north above Zora’s Domain, and sticking to the left, will lead players past Akkala Tower and up to South Akkala Stable. Here, players can start the DLC side-quest “EX Teleportation Rumors” to earn the incredibly useful Travel medallion.
Additionally, if players want to earn a silver rupee, they can complete the fetch quest, “Little Sister’s Big Request”. Bringing an Amopranth and then a cold, warm, and electric Darner will satisfy Gleema’s birthday needs.
7 East Akkala Stable In Northern Akkala Highlands
At the far north-east corner of the map, players will find the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. A useful location for upgrading Link’s Sheika Slate and getting some new Ancient duds.
Down the road, just south of the Tech Lab, players will find the East Akkala Stable, with a gorgeous view of the Akkala Sea. On their way through, players should be sure to pick up the side-quests “A Shady Customer” and “The Spring of Power”.
6 Outskirt Stable In The Southwest Corner Of Central Hyrule
In the southwest corner of the Central Hyrule region lies Outskirt Stable. Almost directly underneath the Great Plateau, Outskirt Stable makes for a great first stable for new players.
It lies just west of the Coliseum, the tauntingly dangerous stadium easily accessible to players first jumping off the Great Plateau. Additionally, the side quests “A Rare Find”, “The Royal White Stallion”, and “My Hero” can all be picked up at Outskirt Stable.
5 Gerudo Canyon Stable On The Border Of Gerudo Desert
The Gerudo Canyon Stable is the last respite before heading into the grueling Gerudo Desert, located at the end of the Gerudo Canyon mountain pass. Make sure to pick up some Cold Darners from the traveling merchant Maypin.
Players can use Cold Darners to cook some yummy heat resistance meals, crucial for surviving the arid desert. Players can also complete the “Rushroom Rush!” quest by collecting 55 rushrooms for Pirou and the “Missing in Action” quest by locating and rescuing Sesami’s companions.
4 Tabantha Bridge Stable In Hyrule Ridge
Due East on the map, the Tabantha Bridge Stable stands on the Hyrule side of Tabantha bridge, crossing Tanagar Canyon (the huge scar running across the map’s north-west side). It’s a pretty prominent location that players will be frequenting time and time again, especially since the pathway to Rito Village can be pretty challenging at times.
The Stable is surrounded by giant, towering mushrooms that can be very fun to climb if it’s not a rainy day. Pick up the side-quest “A Gift For The Great Fairy”, to find the Fairy Fountain located at Piper Ridge.
3 Serenne Stable Between Hyrule Ridge And Korok Forest
Heading north-west out of Central Hyrule, and following the road to the north past Ridgeland Tower, players will discover Serenne Stable. This is a stable that most players might visit once before ignoring for the rest of the game, mainly since it’s positioned at a weird spot on the map that players won’t really need to frequent all that much.
The last bastion before heading up into the freezing Hebra Mountains from the east, Serenne Stable is a crucial stop for Link in his great northern adventure. “The Leviathan Bones” side-quest can also be obtained here from three brothers huddled together.
2 Snowfield Stable In Tabantha Tundra
Continuing up the road from Serenne Stable will lead players into the Tabantha Tundra area of the Hebra region. Here, players will find Snowfield Stable, the perfect starting point for any adventurer hoping to do some big game hunting on horseback.
Tabantha Tundra is a great place to pick up raw gourmet meat, a cooking ingredient that can be sold for a decent amount of rupees or cooked and eaten for a solid amount of hearts.
1 Rito Stable Near Rito Village
Rito Stable is just across the bridge from Rito Village. A great safe zone in the Tabantha region, Rito Stable, and subsequently Rito Village, are a must-see stop in Link’s epic road trip across Hyrule.
The spicy meat stew recipe, hidden away in the stable, will help enterprising chefs stay warm in the frozen Hebra Mountains just north of the village.
